Top 5 Signs that you’re Emotional Spending

Signs of Emotional Spending

The way you spend your money is always a personal choice. Having said that it’s important to pick up the signs of emotional spending. This has long term advantages for yourself & the people around you. Emotional spending comes into play as a reciprocation of your negative emotions & feelings. Based on our spending capacity, we all spend differently. Emotional spending affects our socioeconomic status the most.

This bizarre kind of spending reflects on your emotional weakness and the real compulsion to convert negative emotions. Especially, when we keep hearing out that shopping brings real happiness, we literally start to believe the concept & internalize it as a part of our everyday lives. This is how we fail to realize the consequences.

Returning back to the signs of emotional spending to tackle it better. It just doesn’t reflect your regular spending habits but also your mental instability. If that’s a condition with you, don’t fret! Try reaching out to a financial counselor or even a close friend who trusts you inside out.

Below are the top 5 signs of Emotional Spending

1. Every Purchase leads to Immediate Gratification

Everyone likes to shop to get instant gratification but too frequently could be damaging. This is a great part of emotional spending to help change your negativity to positivity.

2. Convenient Escapade

Of course, it’s fun to shop incessantly whether it’s done online or instore. This in itself can be delightful to do window shopping & compare items. You may do this specifically to avoid the brush away issues in life to use as a cover-up. Maybe you’re spending money as the only way to celebrate oneself. It's perfectly normal to go shopping & celebrate your possessions. However, if this starts becoming too frequent, then you do need a stop. Simply buying new items shouldn’t become your new “happy feeling”.

3. Competitive Purchases in Line

We often buy stuff to fit in places & people that you’re part of certain socioeconomic status.  This act can be risky for your self-respect & financials both. You buy stuff to build a brand new self. We don’t think that its anything wrong to rebuild yourself & make changes to your existing clothes, shoes, hair accessories etc. However, its bad to go beyond capacity out of competitive spirit.

But remember if you’re fully unhappy with yourself, then revamping your materialistic goods will not help at all. Don’t neglect your inner self at all, it can lead to a whole lot of good.

5. Frequently Buying & Returning Items

Every buy you make has return policies attached to it. However if you’re experiencing too many purchases & returns, then surely you’re caught up emotionally. It’s a visible sign that you’re stressed & operating mainly on instincts.  It’s even worse when you’re spending money even when you’re locked up in crisis.

You may just feel exceptionally clueless about how to tackle your financial hiccups. So, you begin to live your dissatisfied state by digging your financial hole even deeper. This is the hardest part of one’s emotional and financial journey.

There’s always a way out to handle your emotional stress. Get your hands on chalking out a routine budget, keep a track of your everyday transactions, etc to take action. Don’t over tense your senses, instead try to understand that you deserve kindness!
